Launched in December 2002, the programme provides a tailored investment package to develop and grow local enterprise in deprived areas. Many activities are already being delivered by innovative organisations ranging from managed workspace and neighbourhood service delivery such as childcare to recycling schemes. These enterprises operate on a business model, but re-invest any generated surpluses back into the community.

Awards for All is a Lottery grants scheme aimed at local communities. They award grants of between £500 and £5,000 in a simple and straight forward way.

The Big Boost programme will award grants of between £250 and £5,000 to help individuals and small groups of young people, aged between 11 and 25 years old, deliver projects in their local areas. It will encourage social entrepreneurship among young people from all backgrounds, helping individuals develop projects which will make a lasting difference to them and to their communities.
BIGinvest is a large loan fund that has been set up by The Big Issue and is an extension of The Big Issue’s mission of self-help and inclusion. It has been formed to help create social impact by investing in the sustainability of social enterprises, local communities and the not-for-profit sector.

The Community Champions Fund was set up to help people who can inspire others to get more involved in renewing their neighbourhoods through participation in community groups.
The fund is worth £3m per year with grants to individuals usually up to £2000 and averaging £1250. The fund is only available in England.

Development Awards are grants for under 25's from £50 to £500. They can be used to either to help you get into education, training or employment, or to volunteer support to help set goals, make decisions and find other programmes or support.

On 25th November 2004 Work and Pensions Minister Chris Pond announced an extra £111 million of European Social Fund (ESF) money to help the most disadvantaged people in England gain jobs and skills.

This fund was set up to encourage voluntary and community organisations to think of interesting ways to help people become more financially capable. The FSA will make available a minimum of £200,000 for funding projects running up until 31 March 2008. The majority of awards are likely to be between £10,000 and £40,000 but larger awards will be considered too.

Charity Bank is a unique organisation: a fully authorised bank and a registered general charity. Charity Bank offers loans or guarantees from £3,000 up to £400,000 for not-for-profit organisations that the banks are either unwilling to consider or when their terms are too onerous.
LIF is a national organization that makes loans of between £25,000 and £250,000 to economically viable, not-for-profit organization across England, that cannot access sufficient funding from conventional sources. LIF has also established Community Loan Funds across the English regions, which focus upon the local communities with the aim of building a close connection between the funds, the clients and the sponsors. The regional funds make loans of between £15,000 and £100,000.
